Gaur Chowk Underpass Near Opening: What It Means for Buyers in Greater Noida West

Hindustan Times and The Times of India report that the Gaur Chowk underpass is almost finished and may open around Diwali. If traffic eases as officials hope, daily commutes in Greater Noida West could get a little smoother, though the gain is not guaranteed.

What happened?

Hindustan Times reported that work on the six-lane Gaur Chowk underpass in Greater Noida West is close to done, with the project likely to open to the public by Diwali. The cost is ₹92 crore and the length is 700 metres. Officials told the paper that about 95% of the work is finished, and only road markings, lighting and wall paintings are pending.

The Times of India added that the authority is still to fix an inauguration date, and that construction materials at the site must be cleared first. The structure runs alongside the Taj Highway, with 350 metres on each side of the junction. Both papers said the original target of 15 August was missed.

According to the reports, work began in July 2024 with an 18-month timeline. Pollution-control restrictions under GRAP and the halting of work during peak hours slowed progress. The authority has also built two U-turns near the junction and resurfaced the parallel road. The Times of India noted that the area has no metro, so residents depend heavily on cars and cabs.

Potential impact

The underpass is meant to let through-traffic skip the junction, which Hindustan Times says serves more than half a million residents. If it works as planned, peak-hour crawls near Gaur Chowk could shorten. Residents quoted by The Times of India described 20-30 minutes just to cross the junction today. Easier access to the expressway tends to make societies in this belt more convenient to live in, but it does not by itself raise prices.

Greater Noida currently averages ₹7,800 per sq ft in our data, with a rental yield of 3.4%. A single road project is unlikely to shift those numbers sharply. Price movement will still depend on supply, builder delivery and loan costs. Congestion has already moved between junctions after earlier flyovers, so the real result will only be clear after some months of traffic.
