Sewri-Worli Connector Deadline: What It Means for Buyers and Investors in Mumbai

Maharashtra's chief minister has put dates and a length target on Mumbai's road and metro work. A fixed deadline helps planning, but delivery history shows dates can slip.

What happened?

The Times of India reported that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis wants 2027 treated as a "Metro Year", with at least 70km of metro corridors finished during it. That figure includes work left over from this year. He also raised the length of corridors aimed for completion by December 2026 from 36km to 50km.

According to the same report, the Sewri-Worli elevated connector now has a deadline of May 31, 2027. It is meant to give drivers a more direct road route between the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link or coastal road, and so to shorten trips between those two links and the western suburbs.

The Times of India added that MahaRail told the review meeting it will finish launching girders for the Prabhadevi road overbridge by November-end, after missing a September target. For Metro Line 2B, the CM asked for a possible 12-hour Sunday road block near Juhu Circle. He also asked that at least 50% of infrastructure work be mechanised, and that agencies map underground utilities better to avoid delays.

Which sectors are affected?

  • Mumbai Trans Harbour Link and Sewri-Worli connector
  • Prabhadevi road overbridge
  • Metro Line 2B (DN Nagar-Chembur stretch)
  • Mumbai metro corridors
  • Western suburbs and island city

Distance from the projects

Distances as sourced on our research pages.

Project To Distance
Oberoi International Business Park Oberoi Garden City Aarey Metro Station 0.02 km
Commerz Oberoi Garden City Aarey Metro Station 0.02 km
Godrej Horizon Wadala Railway Station 0.3 km
Piramal Vaikunth Upcoming Balkum Metro Station 0.5 km
Godrej Horizon Monorail Station, Wadala Bridge 0.7 km
Piramal Revanta Upcoming Sonapur Metro Station 0.75 km

Potential impact

A dated commitment makes it easier for buyers and investors to judge when commute gains might arrive. If the connector and the metro stretches open as scheduled, areas with quicker links to the island city, the harbour side and the western suburbs could see firmer demand and rents. Mumbai currently averages about ₹32,000 per sq ft in our data, so any locality premium from better access would be added to an already high base.

This is still a set of targets from a review meeting, not finished infrastructure. The Prabhadevi overbridge has already missed one deadline, and 70km in a single year is ambitious. Prices in corridors that have been talked about for years may already include some of the benefit. Treat the news as a reason to track progress, not as a promise of appreciation.
