Sion and Vidyavihar Bridges Near Opening: What It Means for Buyers in Central Mumbai
Swarajya, citing Times of India, reports that the Sion and Vidyavihar bridges are built and could open this weekend. If they do, crossing the rail line in the central suburbs gets easier, though the effect on home prices is likely to be small and local.

Illustrative What happened?
Swarajya, relying on a Times of India report, said three road links in Mumbai are physically complete but still waiting for a formal inauguration. They are the Sion bridge, the Vidyavihar bridge and a connector at Goregaon. The opening could happen over the weekend, depending on the diaries of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.
According to the report, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray has asked the government to let traffic onto the Sion bridge now, rather than holding it back for a VIP visit or an auspicious date. Ghatkopar MLA Parag Shah said construction of the Vidyavihar bridge is also finished.
Swarajya also noted that some residents have already begun using the Sion bridge although barricades are up and no official opening has taken place. Two-wheelers and pedestrians have been seen on it, while cars are still kept off. Until authorities open the structures, access stays restricted in parts.

Potential impact
Better road crossings over the rail line usually make daily travel easier for people living on either side. That can make nearby homes a little more attractive to buyers and tenants who commute. The reports describe an opening that has not happened yet, so any gain depends on the bridges actually carrying regular traffic.
Mumbai's average of 32000 per sq ft is driven by many factors such as location, project quality and supply. Two bridges are unlikely to shift prices by themselves. Expect any effect to be gradual and concentrated in the immediate neighbourhoods, and treat it as a modest plus rather than a reason to pay more.
