Raipur–Visakhapatnam Corridor: What It Means for Investors in Nabarangpur and Koraput

OdishaTV reported that NHAI is building a six-lane, access-controlled highway linking Raipur and Visakhapatnam, with a long section through southern Odisha. If it is delivered as planned, towns along the route could see more interest in land, though the reporting describes a project under construction, not a finished road.

What happened?

OdishaTV reported on 17 October 2026 that the National Highways Authority of India is building the Raipur–Visakhapatnam Economic Corridor under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. The full alignment is 464.662 km, and 240.372 km of it runs through Nabarangpur and Koraput districts in Odisha.

According to the report, the road will tie together Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and give mineral-producing areas a quicker route to Visakhapatnam Port. The Odisha portion is split into eight packages across several blocks. The publication said the hilly terrain will be handled with bridges, viaducts, interchanges, underpasses and tunnels, and that two of the packages include paired tunnel bores of 3.42 km and 2.93 km.

OdishaTV also listed planned roadside facilities at Borgam, Kharka, Biriguda, Champia, Lathigura and Gadikhamar, along with a traffic-management system and emergency vehicles. It said the journey between the two cities is expected to fall from 12–14 hours to about 5–6 hours, a figure the report ties to conditions on the route and how the road is operated.

Which sectors are affected?

  • Land and plots in Nabarangpur and Koraput
  • Highway and freight corridors
  • Raipur–Visakhapatnam link
  • Industrial and logistics demand near Visakhapatnam Port
  • Tribal and remote districts of southern Odisha

Potential impact

A faster, controlled-access road usually raises interest in land close to interchanges and in towns that become natural stopping or trading points. That interest tends to show up first as more enquiries and firmer asking prices, well before any change in registered deals. How much it shifts values will depend on where the interchanges are placed, which our data does not show for these districts.

The report mentions lower transport costs and better port access, which could help warehousing and small industry over time. Still, this is a project in progress, and the OdishaTV piece does not give completion dates for each package. Buyers should treat early price talk as expectation, not a result, and check that any plot is clear of acquisition and has a proper title.
