Puri Airport Gets Green Clearances: What It Means for Property Prices in Puri

OdishaTV reported that the proposed Puri airport has secured environmental and coastal-zone approvals from the Union environment ministry, but a final go-ahead is still awaited. For property buyers and investors, it is a step forward on a plan, not a finished airport.

What happened?

OdishaTV reported on 7 October 2026 that the proposed Sri Jagannath Greenfield Airport at Puri has obtained environmental and Coastal Regulation Zone clearances from the Union environment ministry. The report says the project had earlier cleared Stage-I approval.

According to OdishaTV, Puri Collector Dibyajyoti Parida said the forest-related issues tied to the project have been settled. The district administration is now working with the Airport Authority of India and the state Commerce and Transport Department on how construction will begin, and it is still waiting for a final clearance.

The publication said the site is at Sipasarubali mouza along the Puri-Brahmagiri road and covers about 1,464.621 acres. It added that the airport is meant to make travel easier for tourists and pilgrims.

Which sectors are affected?

  • Puri
  • Puri-Brahmagiri road
  • Sipasarubali mouza
  • Hospitality and pilgrimage tourism
  • Land near the airport site

Potential impact

If the airport does get built, easier air access could raise visitor numbers to Puri, which in turn may support demand for hotels, guest houses, short-stay rentals and land in the surrounding belt. Such effects usually appear first as buyer interest and asking prices, well before any aircraft land, so early price moves can run ahead of real progress.

The story describes a clearance stage, not a construction start or an opening date. A final approval is still pending, and the report gives no timeline or cost. Coastal-zone rules also restrict building near the shore, so buyers should check each plot's legal status rather than assume that airport news lifts every property equally. Nothing here guarantees price gains.
