What happened?

The Times of India reported that the Rajasthan government has fixed March-April 2028 as the deadline for the entire Jaipur Metro Line 1 to be operational. The line's first section, between Mansarovar and Chandpole, began running in 2015, and the extension to Badi Chaupar opened in 2020.

According to The Times of India, Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation CMD Vaibhav Galriya named the Mansarovar to 200 Feet Bypass Crossing stretch as the near-term priority, with opening expected by June 2027. He also said the construction between Badi Chaupar and the Transport Nagar extension would need around two more years.

The newspaper added that on Friday the chief secretary, V Srinivas, visited the planned Galta Gate station location and set tunnel boring machines to work on the underground section toward Badi Chaupar. That tunnel runs 3.5 km under the Walled City, and he indicated digging should finish within five to six months. The Ramganj Chaupar station inside the Walled City has been dropped, and both Galta Gate and Transport Nagar stations are now planned on Delhi Road.

Which sectors are affected?

  • Jaipur Metro Line 1 corridor
  • Mansarovar
  • Badi Chaupar and the Walled City
  • Delhi Road (Galta Gate, Transport Nagar)
  • Jaipur residential real estate

Potential impact

A fixed target date can help buyers and investors judge when a better rail link might reach the stretches still under construction. Homes near planned stations on the unfinished section, especially along Delhi Road, may see firmer demand as work visibly progresses, though the size of any price effect is uncertain and would likely appear in stages rather than at once.

Metro timelines in Indian cities often slip, and the heritage-zone tunnelling adds complexity, as the source itself notes UNESCO raised concerns earlier. Jaipur's average price of Rs 5,600 per sq ft and rental yield of 3.1% reflect today's market, which may already price in part of the expectation. Treat 2028 as a target, not a guarantee.
